What to do right now
Check whether the cold taps are running normally. If not, the problem may be the water supply rather than your hot water system.
Check the immersion heater switch and timer, and whether the fuse or breaker for it has tripped at the consumer unit.
Check the cylinder thermostat has not been knocked down or turned off.
If you can smell gas or suspect a gas fault, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
